DOES YOUR CAR NEED A BRAKE REPAIR?

July 9th, 2021 by

It’s easy to ignore the signs that you need a brake repair. All cars make weird noises and occasionally have bad smells, right? Sadly not. If your car smells strange or is making a new, unexpected noise, then your brakes may need repairing or replacing ASAP. Your Las Vegas GMC dealer will be able to tell you more, but it’s a good idea to know the signs, too. How do you know if your brakes need repairing?

5 SIGNS THAT YOU NEED A BRAKE REPAIR

1. BRAKE LIGHT

The brake light turning on is the most obvious sign that something is amiss. While the light may indicate a minor issue that doesn’t require an emergency repair, you don’t want to take that chance. Get to a dealer as soon as the light comes on.

2. BURNING SMELL

You’ll often have a burning smell in the cabin after you’ve started and stopped driving several times, using the brakes. Perhaps you were in traffic that was only crawling along, so there was lots of braking. Unfortunately, over-use of your brakes like this can lead to overheating. If you smell burning, pull over ASAP. Let your vehicle cool completely, and then take it in for a checkup – go straight there, in case your vehicle overheats again, or there’s damage.

3. YOUR BRAKES SQUEAL

We all know that “squeal” sound from portrayals of accidents on TV, but that’s not the only high-pitched sound your brakes make. If your brakes squeal, shriek, or sound metallic when you use them in perfectly safe situations, that’s a problem. Something is wrong if your brakes are making noise with casual use. So, please, get your car in to be checked out ASAP.

4. SQUISHY BRAKES

If anything ever feels wrong or different in your car, you should get it to the dealer as soon as you can. With your brakes, you’ll notice they feel squishy or spongey. Perhaps you have to apply more pressure than usual to get them to work. This is a sign that you need to get them repaired, so please don’t hesitate. Pretty soon, your brakes may not respond to any amount of pressure at all – be safe.
